Are you curious about what it takes to become a firefighter? Ready to challenge yourself, build life skills, and explore a future in public safety? Lake Travis Fire Rescue invites you to be part of our new Explorer Post—an exciting opportunity for young adults ages 15 to 20.

There is no cost to participate in this program.

What is the Lake Travis Fire Explorer Program?

The Lake Travis Fire Explorers is a career-focused program hosted by Lake Travis Fire Rescue (Travis County ESD 6) and affiliated with Scouting America’s Explorer Program.

It’s designed to give young adults real-world insight into the fire service and related careers, including wildfire mitigation, emergency medical services, and public safety education.

Who Can Join?

Any young adult between the ages of 15 and 20 who is ready to commit, learn, and grow. While prior experience isn’t necessary, Explorers are expected to meet some basic requirements, similar to any team or extracurricular activity.

Explorers over 18 must pass a background check and complete Scouting’s Youth Protection Training.

What’s the Commitment?

Explorers meet twice a month and are expected to attend at least 75% of meetings. If more than 25% of meetings are missed, arrangements must be made with the program coordinator to complete makeup sessions.

There will also be opportunities to shadow professional firefighters and other department members, such as our wildfire mitigation specialist, to gain firsthand experience.
